3 Language Updates for Success

spaghetti words

They can cut like a sword, or heal the deepest of wounds. They can sound like sweet melodies, or string with toxic electricity. They mindlessly roll off your tongue millions of times throughout your day. They shape your reality, and change your emotions.

I’m talking about your words. They are tremendously powerful.

Much of the language we use is programmed. We learn it from our family, friends, schools, and the media. At Unleash the Power Within, Tony Robbins explained that “words have a biochemical reaction in your body.” Each word has an energy behind it, which we attach when we connect that word to a feeling or experience. Most of the time we aren’t consciously aware that we are making these connections to words. Much of the energy behind our language goes unnoticed. Whether you realize it or not, your words can be your best weapon or best cure.

Language can either empower us or break us down. You get to choose your words, and you are in control of using each sentence to your advantage or disadvantage. Tony encouraged us to “find the word that is the most real, not the habitual one.” You can become a word maven, and create a feeling of power and confidence as you speak and even think.

Here are 3 top sentences I hear that can easily be reframed for more success:

1. I don’t have any time.

This sentence (excuse) implicates that time is something you own. And when you don’t have it that means it was lost, taken, or used up. This puts you in a state of lack, feeling that you never have enough. Why is it that some people get more done in less time? Is it that they are smarter or more talented? Not likely. They just know this secret: Time is not something we have, it is something we create. You will always make time for the things you want to do. You will not create time for the things you truly don’t want to do.

As a go-getter type of woman, time is your most precious resource. Are you using it to your advantage? Are you creating and making time for your biggest passions and deepest desires? Pretending that you don’t have time is not the solution. Stop blaming time, and use these language updates to expand time and feel less stressed:

  • I’m choosing to engage in other things right now.
  • I only spend my time on things that are aligned with my passions and values.
  • This is important to me, so I’ll make time for it.
  • I create time, and use it consciously.

2. I can’t handle this.

When we’re fed up with something, this is often a statement we’ll make. When you admit that you can’t handle a situation, you are giving up your power to your circumstances. You probably won’t “handle” it. When you feel like you have no control, or can’t do anything, you start to settle. You start to believe that you just have to deal with it, or worse you become apathetic and disengaged entirely. From that place, possibilities disappear and confidence hits a low point.

You are only given experiences and situations throughout your life that you can handle. You are completely capable of surviving through these challenges, or if you choose, thriving because of them. Persistence and patience are sometimes necessary, and these simple language updates will help you along the way:

  • I’m choosing to stick with this, because I know it will pay off.
  • This is challenging, but I know I can handle it.
  • I’m choosing to let this go, and move onto something better.
  • I am completely capable of thriving with whatever life offers me.

3. I don’t know what to do.

It happens… we’re at a loss for what action we should take in the moment. Usually this occurs when we’ve disconnected from ourselves, and are looking externally for answers. When you state that you don’t know what to do, you are sending the message that you don’t have the answer, and need to find it. This can make us feel lost, confused, or powerless.

The answer always lies inside of you. That might sound like some positive thinking life-coaching bull, but it is the truth. You have inner wisdom, that when tapped into, will give you the answers you’re looking for and guide you to where you need to go. It’s always there, and you can access it whenever you like. You don’t have to know exactly how everything will work out in order to take the first step. Reconnect to that place of intuition and deep knowing. Trust yourself. Unlock the part of you with all the answers using these language upgrades:

  • The answers I need will be revealed when I’m ready for them.
  • I trust my intuition, which is leading me to _________.
  • I’m feeling out the best option for me.
  • I give up the need to force this, and allow the next step to come to me.
