Are you out of balance? Ayurveda can help.

What Is Ayurveda?

It’s a question asked by many people interested in alternatives to Western medicine.

The short answer is that Ayurveda is the ancient natural-healing system used in India. Most yoga-teacher training programs will at least touch on some aspects of Ayurveda, as my excellent training with Stephanie Keach at Asheville Yoga did.

When one begins to explore Ayurveda as a system for healing, one learns immediately that each of us is made up of (or demonstrates the qualities of) three main energies: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each of these energies is meant to be in balance; when that happens, we are in good health and feel the true vitality of life.

The problem is, our lifestyle choices, environment, emotions, eating and exercise habits, relationships, and psychology have an effect on this energetic balance. Ayurveda can help us understand where we are out of balance and how to get as close to balance as possible, given any stable circumstances we have no power to change.

I find Ayurveda extremely helpful for naming and helping to improve my areas of imbalance.
