CGN’s Insider Report: Concealers
Summer presents quite a dilemma when it comes to picking the right concealer. Your skin tone fluctuates shades, breakout becomes an issue, and parties abound causing morning-after dark circles and puffiness. If you’ve got something to hide this summer, search no further for top concealer picks. CGN offers four of the best:
Lancôme’s Effacernes Waterproof Concealer: I worked for Lancôme for years in a variety capacities and this concealer makes my toolbox hall-of-fame. It has a matte finish, good coverage, and comes in a tube, so it transports easily. Pat it on, or use a concealer brush for best results. Sephora describes it as,
A long-wearing concealer provides complete, natural-looking coverage by evening skintone, covering dark circles, and minimizing fine lines around the eyes. The result is a soft, matte finish.
Dior Sculpt Smoothing Lifting Concealer: I adore this product, especially if you’re concerned with fine lines and loss of firmness around the eye area. (And, who isn’t!) A word to (a true) oily skin – this product provides a lovely, luminous glow (aka: not matte), so proceed with caution. The product claims to smooth the eye area,
Leaving the area around the eyes visibly refreshed and rejuvenated. With daily use, telltale signs of fatigue diminish and the complexion becomes radiant and even.
The Newest Fave:
Skin Transformer Treat and Conceal: I scored this amazing gem on my recent Sephora excursion with Marcy! Great coverage, blends beautifully, and stays put without getting cakey. I love it for the summer, plus it’s low maintenance. Pat it on with your finger and go. Skin Transformer says it’s,
A multifunctional concealer with powerful hydration, treatment and protection benefits. Developed for use on both the under eye and face, instantly Cover, Correct, and Protect your imperfections with a flawless airbrushed finish.
The Bargain Buy:
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser: Marcy raved about this product so much I ran out and bought it. It provides a great bang for the buck, covers well and offers some treatment properties. Maybelline recommends applying it using the built-in applicator, but I liked the control of my fingertips when applying it better.
A few other concealer tips:
- I don’t care what anyone says or what a product claims. Everyone over the age of 21 needs an eye cream (or gel) under their concealer. The under eye area lacks oil glands, so it wrinkles far easier than our facial skin. Remember! Eyes, throat and hands are the first to show signs of aging.
- Apply your concealer BEFORE your foundation and then freshen it again AFTER you complete your makeup if need be.
- The traditional school of thought recommends choosing a shade two shades lighter than your skin tone. I DISAGREE! You end up looking like a lunatic raccoon, especially in pictures. Beware of going too light.
