Girl Meets World!

When it comes to female empowerment, sometimes you’ve gotta celebrate the little things as much as you do the big ones. Woman elected President? Not yet? Equal representation in the Board room? Ummm, not even close. But one tiny, tiny win happened recently when the Disney Channel released this statement:

We can confirm that Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will reprise their hugely popular roles of Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, this time as a happily married couple and parents to 13-year-old Riley, from whose point of view the story is told.

You may not have caught it from that statement, because Riley can be a gender neutral name. But the big news isn’t that Cory and Topanga are back, it’s that the show will follow their daughter, Riley, and be called Girl Meets World.

A small win, yes, but a win nonetheless. Let’s hope little Riley is a feminist!
