How To Stay Focused + Productive With Your Holiday To-Do’s

Posted December 16, 2012 by Melissa Foster in Features

As we close in on the special days we celebrate, it can be easy to feel the stress that so often accompanies the holidays. How does one get all holiday things done…without being a tensed-up, clenched-up ball?

Here are a few tips on how to stay focused and productive, while reducing the seasonal stress…

1) Perform A Holiday Brain Dump + Sort It Out

To move efficiently through the rest of the holidays, make a project list AND a task list.

An easy way to get started with this is to first do a holiday brain dump. Get everything you need/want to do this holiday season out of your head and onto paper. Don’t worry about doing it in an organized way, just get it down.

Once you’ve completed the brain dump, it’s time to get it sorted in a way that makes sense for you. To do that, follow the quick and easy guidelines covered here.

2) Determine The Amount Of Time You Need For Each Task

Next to each task on the list you’ve just created, write the amount of time you estimate it will take to complete it. Then, add it all up and you’ll have a pretty close estimate to how much time you need to spend on the holiday stuff.

The five minutes it will take you to do this will save you A LOT of time.  Our brain needs information broken down to allow us to effectively use our time. Assuming how long a project/task is going to take is a very inefficient way of going about your business.

Sit down and flush this out. You won’t be sorry.

3) Calendar It

Calendar in blocks of time to focus on the holiday tasks you’ve listed out. And treat this appointment with yourself just as you would a meeting.

A short, daily time block goes a long way. Five days in a row of devoting 45 minutes to your holiday task list will get tons crossed off!

Use this tips to soar through the holidays sans stress. And have fun!!!
