Wanna get a text every time it’s going to rain? Would you like it if every time you uploaded a Facebook photo, it’s automatically saved to a your Dropbox? How great would it be to have photos you post to Instagram automatically emailed to your non-Facebook-using grandmother?

There is an internet service called IFTTT that can do all this and so much more.

IFTTT is a fun service that lets you create useful connections with one simple statement: If THIS, then THAT.

IFTTT

Let’s break this down for you!

What is a Trigger?

The “This” part of a recipe is the trigger. Some example triggers are “If I’m tagged in a facebook photo” or “If I check in on Foursquare.”

What is an Action?

The “That” part of a recipe is the action. Some example actions are “then send me a text message” or “then create a status message on Facebook.”

What is an Recipe?

A Trigger + an Action = A Recipe! You can check out popular recipes here. My personal favorite is here. And I found two additional articles (here and here) featuring some additional creative recipes!

Make magic things happen in your life with this brilliant service. And have fun playing around with it!
