Finding a job in the media and communications industry can be difficult. It is a competitive field that many people are interested in. As someone looking for a job in the industry, you need to use every resource at your disposal to find a position. In today’s digital age, that means especially searching online.

In the media industry applying to jobs online can be like sending your resume into a black hole since many positions posted are already filled or require you to go the extra mile in order to get a response from the company. While you should always check a specific company’s career section for open positions, there are also a few journalism specific job sites that offer a nice round-up of current openings. Sometimes these sites list jobs at places you might not have thought of before, making them an invaluable source.

Here are three sites that can help you in your search

  • This site has the most comprehensive list of journalism jobs online in my opinion. They share an amazing variety of positions open across the country and a number of ways that you can narrow your search so you can find exactly what you’re interested in including location, salary, contract type, hours, and function. You can also look for jobs in the U.K. and sign up for weekly job alerts.

  • Founded by a former copy editor and writer at The Washington Post, updates its database daily and posts positions from a wide-range of companies across the country. They let you search for jobs by specific industry including television, radio, newspapers, non-profits, and more.

  • MediaBistro is well-known for its media events, blogs, and classes. Some people don’t realize that the great connections MediaBistro has made in the industry in these other areas also mean their jobs section is a great place to look for openings. They have one of the largest databases for media jobs online, where you can find hundreds of openings everyday. They also let you search by duration so you can find full-time, part-time, freelance, temporary, and internship positions here.

Happy Hunting!
