Are you a beauty guru but unsure of how to transfer your love of a dolled up face into your nine-to-five job? Women are constantly worried about not fitting in well or standing out too much in the workplace, thus resulting in a rather blasé look.  Think of it this way: you don’t go out for a night on the town without primping and applying your makeup, so why lower your fabulous standards for the workplace?

The key to workplace makeup is to enhance your natural features. I’m not encouraging you to rock your colored eyeliner and smoky eye with your pencil skirt and blouse, but trust me when I tell you that a little concealer never hurt anybody.

Here are 3 easy tips for office makeup that will have you looking competent, professional and beautiful.

  1. The five minute face. This is something that Carmindy on TLC’s hit show What Not to Wear is constantly emphasizing. You can look beautiful without spending an hour getting ready because let’s be honest, career girls are way too busy for that! Beauty sleep is not just a myth; it’s imperative. Follow these tips from Carmindy and you will look both stunning and well rested.
  2. Wear makeup that makes you feel comfortable. If wearing bright colored lips makes you feel the most confident then go for it! But if you’ll spend the day wondering what others are thinking about your bold lip choice instead of actually getting your work done then you should just opt for a nude lip. Your makeup and beauty choices represent you, so always go with what makes you feel beautiful-regardless of the current trend or obsession.
  3. You MUST wear makeup that will last all day. Your day is crazy busy and you don’t have time to be retouching your makeup every 20 minutes. The solution to this problem is buying long-wear makeup. That way all you’ll need to do is some lunch time blotting and you will be looking fresh and fierce all day long.

Your makeup should look fresh and enhance your natural features, not like you were too lazy to take it off after a night of partying.  You want your look to say “promote me” not “my life is a hot mess.”  After all, as Coco Chanel states “Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.” The same philosophy applies to your makeup!

Totally agree! Need another article like this about CLOTHING. I see way too many women (mostly young-mid-upper 20s) wearing clothes entirely inappropriate for work: skirts too short, tops too low, clothing too tight, heels that belong in night clubs.
