Say Yes to the Dress: Wear-to-Work Styles

It may be hard to believe, but when I was growing up, I was a serious tomboy. I remember crying when my mother would dress my sister and me for school in matching dresses. I rejected all things girly and wanted to wear only pants, all the time. I look back now and laugh because my closet is filled with dresses!  I probably wear a dress three to four days out of the week. I’ve learned to say yes to the dress, and when I look back at some of the greatest moments in my professional career, I was wearing a dress.

Now, I know what you may be thinking: “I can’t wear a dress, my work environment is casual, and I don’t need to be dressy for work each day,” or “I can’t wear a dress, my work environment is super conservative and I need to look professional.” But I’m here to tell you that there is a dress for that. There is a dress for everything from the super-casual work environment to the super-conservative work environment, and in all different price ranges. I’ve learned to pick dresses that fit well and have personality, while remaining professional and adapting to the work environment. Some of the dresses I own are the most comfortable things in my wardrobe. A dress can be a quick, easy, and stylish way to get ready in the morning. It’s quicker than finding a skirt and top because the dress is a one-stop shop. You can dress it up or down with jewelry, a cardigan, a blazer, heels, or flats. What can I say? Dresses make me feel good, happy, and confident.
