Transitioning Your Wardrobe for Summer

Summertime is finally here. And while we’ve spent the last two seasons complaining and waiting for summer to come, high temperatures are accompanied by their own set of problems. Inevitably, every year, women ’round the world find difficulties in transitioning their wardrobe into the stifling heat that makes summer what it is.

  • Undergarments are everything. Summer fabrics are naturally thinner than our cold weather clothes. Linen, light cotton, etc. cling more to your thighs than tweed and wool. And when it comes to light fabrics, undergarments are everything. Don’t show every little bump and lump. I highly recommend Spanx’s Skinny Britches Shorts. They’re thin enough to give you breathable results in a piece of shapewear, but still strong enough to smooth out all the right place.
  • Dress up the dressed down. If you’re spending your hard earned paycheck on beautiful summer dresses, it may depress you to have to leave them at home five days a week. But don’t fret. There are great ways to dress up the sundress to make it work appropriate. Throw on a great structured jacket and pair it with classic pumps and jewelry, and your floral print can suddenly be office appropriate. Check out the ensemble below as an example.

  • When it comes to color, fit is key. Go ahead ladies, wear that hot pink. Summer is a time for color – not just in our clothes, but in our drinks, our green grass and blue skies. But when it comes to color in your wardrobe, remember, there’s a reason black is slimming – you can’t see flaws in it. Color is the opposite. So when you’re buying bright colors, don’t be afraid to size up or tailor if you must. Fit means looking great in even the brightest brights.
  • Nothing goes with sweat stains. If you want to keep your ensemble looking beautiful, you’ve also got to avoid the sweat stains that can plague any dress or top. So carry with you some extra deodorant, blotting papers, and anti-shine powder. Also, try Hollywood Fashion Secrets’ Garment Shields. They’re fab!

So get out there, wear what makes you feel great this summer, and enjoy the heat while you can. Soon enough, we’ll be complaining about the cold once again.
