This evening CGN is delighted to host Kate White, former Editor-in-Chief of Cosmopolitan magazine, on #careergirlchat at 8:00 EST.

In preparation, I’ve read her most recent book, I Shouldn’t Be Telling You This, listened to our CGN podcast interview with Kate, and watched a Google Hangout panel discussion facilitated by Kate called “Be “That Girl”: How to Fine Tune Your Brand and Take Your Success to a Whole New Level.”

In the spirit of collaboration, I’ve provided a few cliff notes, so you’re prepped and ready to chat with her this evening! Direct message us @careergirlnet with your question for Kate.

Kate-ism #1

  • Look and act the part: We’ve all heard the expression, ‘dress for the job you aspire to’, but Kate also reinforces the need to ACT like the job you aspire to. A great outfit and a killer Reed Krakoff bag gets you noticed, but great work and a bit of self-promotion gets you your next plum assignment.

Kate-ism #2

  • Get comfortable being uncomfortable: In Kate’s Google Hangout, she quipped the phrase ‘get comfortable with being uncomfortable’ would be her first tattoo. We become complacent when we get too comfortable and that’s typically when our career and personal growth plateau. Instead, scare yourself by taking on new assignments, or opportunities.

Kate-ism #3

  • Meet people outside of your industry: Whether it’s through a yoga class, or an educational environment meet and spend time with people outside your industry. We get so caught up in our industry bubble, our direct competitors, and who’s who in our zoo that we lose perspective….and we lose the next big idea, or breakthrough for our company. Refresh your view!

For the full prep, read an excerpt of her book here, listen to Kate’s CGN podcast and watch her Google Hangout below! See you tonight on the Twitter Chat #careergirlchat at 8:00 EST!

Pssst: Don’t forget to direct message us @careergirlnet with your question for Kate.
